My name is Max Brown and I like cookies...
I am a student athlete at Emory University studying Biophysics and Classics. I am on the Varsity Cross Country and Track and Field Team and am passionate about the science, sports, and humanity. This site contains a class project I completed for a race, gender, and media student class. The project addresses the history of transgender athletes competing in professional athletics. I question and analyze if they should be allowed, how we separate athletics into cisgender categories, and delve into the various reactions to athletes that stray from the social norms throughout history. I focus on the olympics, but also touch on various professional athletic competitions and how they have treated transgender, homosexual, female, and gender fluid athletes. I try to provide as much objective information as possible on the subject to provide each viewer with the opportunity to form their own opinions on the history as well as provide opinions from experts in the field. I then give my own take on each event through history, which is a valuable one given my background in collegiate athletics and education. I hope you enjoy and learn something new about the history of sports!
